A lot of notable notables were in attendance. Congressman Lloyd Doggett stopped by and addressed the crowd. We were happy also to see Jimmy Skipton, president of the board of the Hays Trinity Groundwater Conservation District, enjoying the company and good barbecue and of course Eliza's super fine music and vibes. A great time was had by all. It was good to see so many people out to support our natural water ecology in western Hays and the Hill Country.

From the previous article, it sounds like citizens and business owners in Wimberley are dumping sewage into Cypress Creek. WVWA wants to keep up the "flow" in order to wash the sewage downstream.
You mean Jimmy "The Big Skip" Skipton was in attendance? I thought he was evil personified!?! How can that be? Who let him in the door? Maybe he has come over from the dark side! (Tongue-in-cheek!)
Come on, now, let's have some fun. Where are the enviro-wackos? The Big Skip is trying to get along with you freaks. If he can come to your souiree, then the least you can do is give him the credit of trying.
It's ironic that the WVWA would hold its water conservation fundraiser at the Salt Lick where owner Scott Roberts relies on Patrick Rose to create a Municipal Management District with sales tax authority for five hundred acres of high end development and a high water use vineyard.
Those in the video who speak of a comprehensive plan to preserve and share our groundwater must have a short vision---or at least are willing to turn a blind eye when the power structure is concerned.
HaysCAN will continue to cast a clear eye on the facts no matter who they make uncomfortable.

What is Doggett doing at such a meeting when he voted for HR 2421, which allows the feds to take over all the waterways. http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=63207 He has already shown that his answer is for the feds to take over. We do not need those kind of solutions for our problems.
HR 2421 (2008) did not pass the House. It is related only to water quality and prevention of pollution, not management or distribution, amending the Clean Water Restoration Act of 2007. It is not a federal takeover of our waters.
Finding No. 14 in the proposed bill: "States have the responsibility and right to prevent, reduce, and eliminate pollution of waters, and the Federal Water Pollution Control Act respects the rights and responsibilities of States by preserving for States the ability to manage permitting, grant, and research programs to prevent, reduce, and eliminate pollution, and to establish standards and programs more protective of a State's waters than is provided under Federal standards and programs."
Interesting, Republicans for Environmental Protection, Ducks Unlimited, Trout Unlimited were among the supporters of the bill.
Among the opponents: Associated General Contractors of America, Edison Electric Institute, International Council of Shopping Centers, National Association of Home Builders, National Association of Manufacturers, National Mining Association, National Stone, Sand, and Gravel Association, and the American Conservative Union.
There has been no effort to reintroduce the bill since 2008.

I have been surprised by Jimmy Skipton. He has really made an effort to educate himself on the science of groundwater. He is thoughtful and deliberate. I am glad that he is on the HTGCD.

The Water Celebration was a great event! Water-lovers stay united!!! We REALLY need to keep the "water-lovers" sustained!!!
The level of our aquifer in greater Hays County is under attack by ABSENTEE LAND-LORD developers. They have money-to work-NOW [like the Midland money flowing into North WoodCreek in Wimberley! This type "buys-in, develops,takes their profit and leaves" us with a drained aquifer!
For example: My stream used to run 8 months of the year, just 10 years ago; I am lucky if it runs a month after big rains, now. Jacob's Well has stopped flowing twice in the last 10 years, first time in history!!!

... from a former Chesapeake Bay "water baby" who is saddened when the creeks stops flowing.... Thanks, WVWA!!! They cleaned up the Bay! May we be able to keep the Hill Country water flowing !!!
