Off the beat: Remember to support your local farmers market

You'll find Belinda Zent, owner of Busy B's Home Baked Goods, most every Wednesday out at Wimberley's Farmers Market on the Thrift Store parking lot, adjacent to the community center. Hours are 3 pm to 6 pm. There's a great bounty of fresh organic vegetables, fruit, baked goods, goat cheeses, canned banana pickles, sometimes grass fed buffalo meat and beef, and much more. We made off today with a dozen fresh yard eggs from E-I-E-I-O's booth, two of Belinda's lemon bars and one of her last peach breads made with fresh hill country grown peaches. Belinda can be reached at 512.847.9020. Many of her bread recipes were handed down from her ma and grandma. Farmers markets are sprinkled all over the hill country. They are a tradition as old as the hills. Make sure to stop by and support your local growers and producers.

Good common sense post from Mr. Ochoa.

I strongly encourage buying from locally owned small to medium sized businesses as that is what will be the real "savior" of our domestic economy.

If the right wing nuts actually believe that re-electing the corporate-corrupted, dinosaur- economy Republicans is going to make any difference for US middle class Americans, they are going to be sadly disappointed.

Let's just hope when right wing voters are really pissed off as the economy gets worse with the incompetent tax cutters and financial terrorist conservatives again running our government, they won't continue to blindly blame immigrants, black presidents, minorities, Muslims or liberals even more for their own economic and political ignorance.

You are not victims of anyone other than yourselves, my fellow right wing citizens. Maybe someday you will learn. Hopefully it will be before the only US strength as a nation is our military, and we end up being just another failed empire.

Brenda's breads are yum! I like her wheat bread and jalapeno corn bread also with butter.
