In Statesman letter, Sharp calls Rose essentially a liar

When people around the Capitol use the phrase "I've been Rosed" to mean they've been lied to, there's a problem

Note: In case you hadn't seen this letter to the editor in today's Statesman, here's the link to the letter and the story referred to in the editor's note below: http://www.statesman.com/opinion/the-three-r-s-vying-for-governor-244772.html . . . scroll down to the fourth letter. And here's the link to the story that prompted Sharp's letter: http://www.statesman.com/news/texas-politics/state-rep-patrick-rose-faces-first-democratic-primary-214839.html

Mr. Sharp, a Democrat, is running for the U. S. Senate seat now held by Kay Bailey Hutchison. As always, Mr. Rose is welcome to send us his comments.

Sharp retort

Re: Feb. 5 article "Rose faces first test in Democratic primary."

State Rep. Patrick Rose's suggestion that I got mad at him for not doing what two friends wanted on water legislation is false, and he knows it.

Rose asked me to get the developers together with him, and I did. He then agreed to everything they wanted — even signing off on the legislation. Then, without telling anyone, he did the opposite.

I had no interest in — and could care less about — this legislation. My problem with Rose is he can't seem to tell the truth.

When people around the Capitol use the phrase "I've been Rosed" to mean they've been lied to, there's a problem. I wish Rose the best in all the does, but having a reputation for constantly misrepresenting the facts and not telling the truth is not the way to treat anyone, much less friends trying to help you.

John Sharp

Former Texas comptroller

Austin

Editor's note: Obviously, there's some history here, and we urge readers to read an American-Statesman article published in October 2007 about the bill that triggered Sharp's letter. The article can be found below, after the letters.

If Rose would be a 4-legged animal, most likely he'd be a lyin' weasel.

nothing more needs to be said, good night young prince! Still can't help but notice the uniqueness of a statewide candidate assessing a wanna-be and perhaps protecting the state at the same time. If only someone had done the same for Bush the younger... thanks Mr Sharp for sharing your thoughts, it may have just saved the state from a Bush by another name. Now vote!

I agree with Sharp. Rose IS a liar, but he left out a "dirt bag" as well.

As I wrote in an earlier comment:

"When dealing with politicians, most of them evolve into pathological liars from making so many promises -- with no intention of fulfilling those promises. Over time, they can't tell the lies from the truth even as they talk. This is why many politicians end up engaging in infidelities, because they lose touch with any sense of personal integrity and honesty."

Although to be real, hearing that the politicians in Austin have a saying "I was Ro$ed" is like George W. Bush calling someone a retard.

How about "I was politicianed" when referring to pathological liars?

Come one P RoSe, using breast cancer to get elected is about rock bottom.. your slick mailer was off color (not the usual red glossy junk mail) and your lies written on it were big even by your standards... you take credit for their work and you only gave them about $90.. to pray on non-profits is a new low... good night little prince Pinocchio Ro$e.

My hope is that from this day forward the Little Prince, Patrick Rose, will always have one question in his mind when he approaches someone. I hope he'll will always wonder --- Does this person know that I am a congenital liar?

Look for the signs of aging to appear as the Little Prince has to deal with knowing that at least one of his secrets is out.

I used www.vote-smart.org to compare what Rose said at the Democrats candidate forum and his voting record. Correct me if I am wrong according to this site he seems to need to have a problem. Therefore, further explaining is needed.

If it looks like a pig, sounds like a pig, acts like a pig, then most likely it is a pig. And if it's a pig then Rose probably fits the mold.

Most of the posting on this particular thread seems to by immature adolescent name callers. Let’s hope they grow up soon or go back to their video games and texting. It is a fact that ”texting” can impair ones social and communicative skills.
