Here's President Obama on the debt ceiling plan reached by Congressional leaders late Sunday and today. The video was sent this morning by the Obama for America campaign.
Legislation encapsulating the agreement was expected to be voted on by the US House today. Pundits are calling it a clear win for Republicans.

Update, Tuesday Aug. 2: You can watch live Senate debate and final vote on the debt ceiling bill, on C-Span2. Stay tuned. The president is expected to make a statement shortly after the vote.

This is the age of technology,
A cyberspace nightmare,
The wonderful world of technology,
Napalm, hydrogen bombs, biological warfare,

This is the new century,
But too much aggravation
It's the age of insanity,
What has become of the green pleasant fields of Jerusalem.

Ain't got no ambition,
I'm just disillusioned
I'm a twenty-first century man but I don't wanna be here.

My mama she can't understand me
She can't see my motivation
Just give me some security,
I'm a paranoid schizoid product of the twenty-first century.

Keep all your smart modern writers
Give me William Shakespeare
Keep all your smart modern painters
I'll take Rembrandt, Ruebens, Da Vinci and Gainsborough,

Girl we gotta get out of here
We gotta find a solution
I'm a twenty-first century man but I don't want to die here.

I was born in a corporate state
Ruled by accountancy
Controlled by political servants
And people dressed in grey
Got no privacy, got no liberty
Cos the twenty-first century people
Took it all away from me.

Don't wanna get myself shot down
By some trigger happy policeman,
Gotta keep a hold on my sanity
I'm a twentieth century man but I don't wanna die here.

Im sick and tired of hearing lies
From uptight short-sighted
Narrow minded hypocrites

All I want is the truth
Just give me some truth

Ive had enough of reading things
By neurotic-pyschotic-pig headed politicians

All I want is the truth
Just give me some truth

No short haired-yellow bellied
Son of Ronnie Rayguns
Is gonna mother hubbard
Soft soap me
With just a pocketful of hope
Money for dope
Money for rope

Im sick to death of seeing things
From tight lipped-condescending -mommies little chauvinists

All I want is the truth
Just give me some truth

Ive had enough of watching scenes
Of schizophrenic-egocentric- paranoid prima-donnas

All I want is the truth
Just give me some truth

According to all reliable news reports, John Boehner assured House Republicans that the budget deal does not endanger any Republican priorities and that the president gave up his previous demand for increased taxes on the wealthy.

In other words, the president capitulated. In other words, the wealthy that are hoarding the money get a free pass to keep freeloading on the rest of us. In other words, the poor, the working, and the middle classes are asked to make all the sacrifices to avoid national default.

In other words, the president pulled the rug out from under Democrats who were looking forward to attacking Republicans for wanting to cut Medicare in the 2012 elections.

To this president and his congressional allies, making a deal, any deal, is more important than any principle.

The desperate desire to achieve agreement even if it means giving up every fundamental principle means confrontation avoidance as an end in itself regardless of what is given up. It means agreements that lack moral content. It means there are no convictions worth drawing a line in the dirt over.

From now on, no demand that president Obama ever makes will be worth its own sound waves. The whole world knows that if his adversaries stand firm, he will give in, no matter what he may have said about any principles. He has become a lame duck before the end of his first term.

Some will say, “What could he have done?” He could have stuck to his guns to the very last minute. Then if the Republicans still would not compromise, he could have done what Big Dawg Bill Clinton suggested: raise the debt ceiling by presidential order. He would have been on solid Constitutional ground, since the 14th Amendment mandates the United States government to honor its debts.

In other words, he could have shown some guts and fulfilled his duty to uphold the Constitution no matter what heat the Republicans would generate.

But there is the rub. He can’t take the heat.

Do you know what would be worse than not raising the debt ceiling ... having this bozo in office for another 5.5 years.

Grandstanding after his dismal failure, his modus operandi it seems. Jimmy Carter and Richard Nixon are somewhere now celebrating that Obama has broken the tie and now the worst either one could be thought of is the second worse President in history.

What we have here friends, is a takeover by an extreme sociopathic minority (Republicans) hell bent on destroying Obama, creating fake crises and destroying the country in the process. Let's not forget how Dubya was give a free pass by Republicans on the debt ceiling at least 9 times. Fubar.

I wish that a couple of the anonymous posters would use their name so we'd know who, in 2011, and after all we've seen in the past 30 or 50 years, still believes that the Republican Party or the Democratic Party gives a rat's ass about you.

It doesn't matter how many blog responses you post or how many emails you send to your friends perpetuating their scams on behalf of special interests and at your own expense. It doesn't matter how many hours you spend knocking doors, making phone calls, registering voters around election time. They don't care about you.

You're a tool to them... to elect their guy (because he's better than the other team's guy, right?). If you're organized and effective, your guy wins and you get a photo shaking his hand before he goes off to do his special interest bidding (of which your cut is 0).

This is true with precious few exceptions. And we all know it. Some just can't break the habit.

Better we just drive the parties to our agenda... Something like... hmm... "a safe, free, and prosperous America / Texas / Hays County." Maybe we stop excusing them when they pursue other agendas, even it if means crossing party lines or voting 3rd party. Maybe we require the parties stand for what we want before we offer it any support.

Better that we become more active, not in party interests, but in our own and each others' interest.

For some people, that takes balls. For some it take faith. For others it comes more naturally. All I know is that we need all we can get.

What we see in the U.S. is because we've been followers instead of standing up for the things we all care about. Let's find the strength and faith to do so.

And its actually pretty fun.

The Republicans and their hari-kari tea party faction are winning because frankly they are better at political warfare. They stand their ground to the last man. That's how revolutions are won.

Democrats, while intellectually more sound and honest, are better at herding cats than they are at fighting for principle.

I am afraid our great country is in for a rough ride. Many large and looming issues, a green and growing economy, climate change, unemployment, stagnant wages and a stagnating middle class, the demise of our public education system, are being ignored, cast aside, while the Republican right goads the country towards division and civil war.

If there ever was a time in our history, it is now for all men and women to come to the aide of their country to disavow hollow and reckless ideologies, to find common ground and unite first as Americans!

Johnny B. Good is too accurate.

What we are going to see is more emboldened right wing hate group violence as well as very aggressive civil disobedience and possibly violent activity on the part of the fed-up, nothing to lose middle class.

Sadly, right wing Americans are living in a fool's paradise by waxing victorious in these bogus political victories by actually believing that their pathetic political representatives are acting in their best economic interests.

Unless they know how to invest "short," they are going to get more pissed off when they see their retirement money decline in value and their over-indebted lifestyle become even more like indentured serfdom.

But they have their guns and their trucks. So what the hell.
