April rebate program set for energy-efficient appliance purchases

Update, Thursday April 1
– The Comptroller’s Office has changed the start date for reserving a rebate from April 5 to April 7 to avoid conflict with the Easter holidays.

Hays County Courthouse, San Marcos, TX – Hays County has been notified by the Texas Comptroller’s State Energy Conservation Office (SECO) that certain ENERGY STAR major appliances purchased beginning April 16 will be eligible for rebates through stimulus funding from the U.S. Department of Energy.

An additional rebate will be available if the old appliance is properly recycled according to SECO guidelines.

Consumers will have an opportunity beginning April 5 to reserve an appliance rebate. You will not be required to have selected your appliance to reserve the rebate. After the reserved mail-in rebates are awarded, any remaining funds will be rebated to consumers on a first-come, first-served basis. Shoppers will be limited to two appliance rebates and two recycling rebates per household.

According to SECO, the mail-in rebates will apply to eligible appliances purchased during certain time periods beginning April 16 and will not be retroactive to previously purchased appliances. For refrigerators, freezers, clothes washers, dishwashers and room air conditioners, the purchase period ends April 25. For central air conditioners, hot water heaters and air-source heat pumps, the purchase period ends 60 days from the rebate reservation or wait list request date.

For more information about the program and eligible appliances, or to reserve a rebate, call 1-877-780-3039 or go to www.texaspowerfulsmart.org.

I think Texas AG Greg Abbott should file a lawsuit against the Department of Energy to stop this blatantly illegal government program from saving us money when we buy energy efficient appliances.

This program can only be an Obama government conspiracy in cahoots with Lowes and Best Buy and Home Depot to further infiltrate his Pol Pot like government into our lives.

Besides, I don't need anymore appliances sitting on my porch. And the ones rusting in my yard are looking kinda nasty.

Bubba forgot to add Sears and Target and Appliance Warehouse to the list of socialist government sympathizing corporations that use our tax dollars for welfare to treehuggers and environmentalist.

Why, I was just going to buy stock shares of PEC so I could profit from communist-like coop energy rates. Next thing you know even Aqua Texas will start being concerned about its customers.

Where is our country headed? We need Sarah Palin to come down here and shake things up.

To Bubba:

It is obvious that you are not an Obama fan and that is fine with me. I am not thrilled with many actions by the Obama administration, but I fail to see what "grabs your shorts" regarding the appliance program.

Do you really have a problem providing businesses with a perk to sell more appliances? That's right out of the "Capitalist handbook".

Do you really have a problem with people getting a slight deal on purchasing appliances? What's wrong with that?

This is a very small government program in comparison to the huge taxpayer bail-outs provided to the financial industry by the Bush administration and that provided to the auto industry by the Obama administration.

It seems that the appliance program works for everyone. I would only change it to read that old appliances must be turned-in and recycled. Usually, if a larger appliance, the old one is picked up when the new one is delivered.

No one is being forced to buy new appliances and you cannot buy any appliance under the program, it must be a better energy saver. At least it is a start towards a green environment re: our overuse of energy.

As for your "rusted appliances sitting on your porch and in your yard", why be so tacky when you can load them up in your rusty 4X4 and recycle them?

So, what is the real beef?

I want Ms Palin to come here and walk around with those black leather boots. She makes me need a new energy efficient air conditioner.

And by the way, anonymous, I'm related to a different Nazi -- Adolph Coors.
