Tons of them . . . but are they helping the voters decide?
Last election we complained about all the mailers overloading our mailbox and hoped to goodness we might see fewer in the future, as a friendly gesture to our forests, environment and informed citizens' mailboxes. Fat chance. We're not only setting records on fund raising contributions (or payoffs) to the candidates this cycle, we are approaching a personal record on received political flyers! Two more big waves are coming Monday and Tuesday, Election Day. The mailers might be lovely keepsakes for political junkies but for the vast majority they probably add up to a lot of junk/mail – that has to be dumped somewhere. They are one-sided attack pieces, rarely fair and accurate on the issues, and probably have little effect on persuading voters to vote for one candidate over another. Out here, everybody knows somebody and that's how voters make their choices. There's gotta be a better way. Meantime, please remember to RECYCLE your mailers responsibly.

Hey Jason, I noticed your pants were on fire..

Would it be too hard to just tell the truth?
Little Patrick Rose's pants have caught on fire numerous times. And that's why Democrats are just sitting out the Rose - Isaac race.
Let the desperate Dems begin to lose their minds and grasp at straws.
Clarification:
"to explore basing property taxes on income. A tax based on income is an income tax. Can't get any plainer than that."

Your pants are on fire. According to politifact.com, Rose has never had his pants on fire. Isaac has though.
Without any "party bias": none of the mailers are particularly creative in stated text at this point - although there is some interesting "subliminal" imagery work.
I used to fold up the mailers and throw them in the trash. They have never convinced me to vote different than I had already decided. Thanks for the reminder on recycling.
In the San Marcos League of Women Voters guide, Mr. Rose states “As your representative, I am most proud of joint authoring our nationally recognized tort reform, creating the Texas Manufacturers Caucus to stop jobs from going overseas, championing policies ……” (no specific policies mentioned) etc.
I did a google search of “Texas Manufacturers Caucus” and am only directed to his campaign website and to the campaign website of some other mostly liberal leaning politicians. There is no website for the Texas Manufacturers Caucus and I can not find out who the members even are, let alone what they might have actually accomplished.
Furthermore, I did a google search for Texas Tort Reform. It does appear that House Bill 4 during the 2003 legislative session did have a significant impact on limiting non-economic damages in civil litigation, but Mr. Rose is NOT listed as the author. He is NOT listed as one of the four joint authors. He is NOT even listed as one of the 80 co authors.
So, I asked him point blank at the Wimberly League of Women Voters event exactly “what nationally recognized tort reform bill are you a joint author of?” After some hesitation, he said it was the asbestos bill in 2005. Well, guess what. That bill (SB 15) is a Senate Bill which basically requires a person to have his physical ailment verified by a qualified doctor before the court will accept the case. The primary author of that bill is listed as Janek . There are no joint authors. The only coauthor is Nelson.
Glenda Hovey with Texans For Lawsuit Reform has confirmed that Mr. Rose was NOT a joint author of “our nationally recognized tort reform”.
Mr. Rose has represented us for 8 years, and this is what he writes as his most significant accomplishments.
Please remember this when you vote.
