Commissioner Ford: 'I'm having a face to face meeting with Mike Farr'

"I am not out to get Mike Farr or shut down his business — contrary to what someone has led him to believe, or what he wants you to believe — for whatever reason."

Note:
See story below for more details. Maybe Mr. Farr will get back to us (and the rest of the world) with the results of his meeting with Ms. Ford.

Please believe I had no intention, desire, or gave any orders to shut down Nutty Brown Café – and certainly not on a night that benefited a young woman from Dripping Springs who is ill. That would be alien to my value system, beyond my authority, and politically stupid.

I have enjoyed music, food and drinks at Nutty Brown Café on numerous occasions. And while I know there are a number of citizens who would
like to see the venue shut down due to the noise and nuisance, the county has no authority here. I believe Mr. Farr stays within the law on noise levels, and goes beyond on hours of music, shutting it down at 11 pm when he could let it play longer. I understand that Mr. Farr has been generous in this community through donations of his time, place and money. I have attended benefits at the venue, and I’ve defended him on these points.

I am not out to get Mike Farr or shut down his business — contrary to what someone has led him to believe, or what he wants you to believe — for whatever reason.

As with any business in Hays County, it must operate within the limits of the law. If there are potential mass gathering situations or violations, we will work with Mr. Farr to ensure legal requirements are met. He seems very aware of these requirements and desirous to stay within them.

Mr. Farr and I have scheduled for a face to face meeting this week in hopes of sorting this all out.

If you would like to discuss further, please call me at my office in Dripping Springs, 512-858-7268.

Thank you.

Karen Ford

In politics we see it all the time. The denial, the "do not remember", and the "do not recall"-in the long run- are worse than the deed itself. Over and over we see this. Why can't they learn?

Karen, you were very, very pro Road Bond in relation to the expansion of 290; I believe you referred to it as a corrider; and that corrider is heavily traveled and is obviously being developed. It seems to me you are very pro development.

Nutty Brown is on that corrider; so it is very appropriately placed. The Backyard and Cypress Creek Cafe have closed. Almost no live music venues exist in these parts anymore.

You and your puppet attorney Mark Kennedy need to back off. Pull your wet finger down; it's time to quit trying to see which way the political winds are blowing.

We supported you, contributed, worked, and voted for you. We will not do that again. And it's not just about this issue. You have made many critical decisions not in the best interest of Pct. 4 and Hays County.

If Karen did lie, and it remains in doubt, it’s not a “Clinton” type lie. Even if true, she has the right or really the duty to check out complaints of perceived violations. I suspect that Mr. Farr’s politics prompted all of his dramatic indignation. If Karen is pro-growth, then good for her. The no-growth people that would like to have all of Hays County look like the Wimberley Square or NBC are beginning to get on my nerves. This is the 2009, not the nineteenth century.

Quite possibly the wisest words every written on this blog!

Why does it always have to be about extremes?

Pro-growth vs. No growth?

We don't seem to be able to envision MODERATE and intelligent growth, it's just all or nothing thinking.

There is no question that politics in this county takes precedence over what really is good for the community.

Those that find themselves in a loosing position often stress moderation or compromise. They might as well say, we are loosing so please show us some compassion.

If you believe that I would suggest you get a dictionary either Webster, Political, or Medical type and look up the definition of moderation.

Moderation is a good thing and NOT a "losing" venture or proposition. It keeps us healthier in the long run.

Better Karen Ford, a centrist Democrat, who supports groundwater preservation and smart growth than a water well driller republican who is blind as a bat to those two important issues just like Conley and most other republicans in this county. I say save our groundwater, save our open spaces and western hills. To hell with fossil head republicans. I'll stick with Ford.

So, the lesser of the evils again for taxpaying residents?

Anon # 6-
It does my heart good to see radical lefties like you out there, and for all of the independent voters to see your true stripes as well. I hope Karen likes the kind of hateful support that you bring to the table. Karen will truly need the help of RINO's (Republicans In Name Only) to get re-elected in a predominantly Republican precinct.

If you doubt that this is still a Republican precinct - ask yourself, who are the down ballot candidates that won the election in 2006? Constable (beating out an incumbent Democrat local - who personally is as good as gold, luv ya Deb!), Justice-of-the-Peace, and who put the County Clerk over the top at the end of day to beat a Democrat? That's right friends and neighbors, Precinct 4! All of the above candidates were and are Republicans, not Democrats. How did the Democrats win the big races? It was a vote the bums out kind of a year, and with candidates like Molenaar and Powers, and the terms that they were just finishing, it was bad juju for them to be Republicans. The national political scene didn't help.

And for the record, the tables are turned - 2010 will not be a good year to be a Democrat with the economy still in a tail-spin, Aghanistan falling apart, an indecisive President, a Congres and National Democrat Party hell-bent on ramming (or rahming) through legislation that is radical left will see next November become a sea change of out with the left and in with the center right (ala, Republicans). Traditionally, the off-year elections in a new President's term usually goes badly for his party, and next year will be no exception. That will spell locally good for the Republican Party for Judge and Commissioner's races. And we can truly say - thanks Democrats for showing us how not to govern - petty, selfish, self-interest, power to the radicals. It's time for the mature to govern again.

Yes, Precinct 4 is very Republican but your predictions that Precinct 4 will tip the county wide elections to the right shows your ignorance. The eastern part of the county (Precincts 1 & 2) are growing at incredible rates. Most of these new voters are young, middle class families who know that the Party of No (also known as the GOP) does not value the same things that matters to them. Tax cuts for the rich and big industries don't exactly play well to families that are just trying to pay their bills.

The real point of your arguments is that there is no REAL, HONEST and INDEPENDENT candidate out there, neither Republican or Democrat.

That's the real problem with politics these days.

We all will remain in the crapper because wealthy special interests buy candidates at all levels of government.

I read the letter Mr. Farr wrote slamming Ms. Ford. I found the timing of it to be questionable at best and his tone and demeanor concerning. He is a business man who should show more calm and resolve when dealing with problems. There is never anything to be gained by taking the radical, attack approach.

Anon # 9 - So who were the independents and others who showed up on election day this year to vote in a REPUBLICAN governor for not only Virginia, but New Jersey? These were the same independents that the Obama sham-train convinced he was a "change" agent last year, only to find out too late that they had been hood-winked by the same "change" agent. (as in socialist change, not change for the better).

So, you think that the young folks moving to Kyle and Buda are necessarily Democrats? I wouldn't bank on that too fast, especially if they are out of work this time next year. Remember by this time next year, Obama cannot blame the economy on anyone else. He has had two years of his programs to get people back to work, which according to him would happen rapidly with the influx of TARP and other federal monies. The prediction of unemployment only reaching 8% has turned out to be a major fallacy - we are over 10% and on our way to 12%. Good luck with such dreaming.

When speaking of independents, I was not speaking of the party, rather, I was speaking of candidates of ANY party that is independent of wealthy special interest control.

If you reread my comments you will see that the next 2 sentences coincide more with that train of thought.

I have to agree with the anonymous that says that it isn't about which party is right, because they are both honestly morally and intellectually bankrupt. They are both overly beholden to a series of special interests to whom when they are "empowered" to run the level of government that they are charged with, they are corrupted to the level of which they accuse their predecessors of being.

Is it time for the rise of the independents? I say that quite honestly, yes. If it means that Republicans and Democrats need to come in out of the cold and shake hands on good common-sense approaches to re-establish good governance, and demolish the political parties, then by all means let us do so as people of good will, and common interest.
