Dear Media Friends:

The Texas Water Development Board, all six Perry appointees, have abdicated their duties to "provide for the conservation and responsible development of water for Texas." We believe they are operating in violation of the Texas Water Code.

What's more is that groundwater contamination is a real threat. If you don't believe it, read this.
This is why we have joined with other organizations (and more are on the way) to urge the Texas Legislature to:

(1) enact a statewide Moratorium on Groundwater Permits, (2) call upon the Governor to call a special session in the summer to address the water crisis, and (3) hold hearings to inform and involve the public.

Please use these documents to understand what we are attempting to do (click here to download):

* Moratorium Request * Moratorium Supporting Information * Bill Summary

Also, please note that media is invited to our statewide ACTION conference (see flier below), "The Texas Water War: Is there a solution and who decides" on Saturday, March 19th from 10 to 5 pm. This event will address legislative, legal and community action.

Thank you.

Thank you so much for the information. Please let the folks in Bastrop and Lee counties know that we are fighting just as hard to protect our water here in Wimberley. We do not want to give up our rights nor yours just so that speculators from Midland can line their pockets with lots of cash. The last thing we want to see happen is Bastrop and Lee County citizens' water being stolen out from under them to service these Midland speculators.

Speculators, or "Predators?"

Independent Texans, my Butt! Just a re-invented bunch of liberals, since wearing the Democrat hat makes you a loser. It’s not what you are called, it is what you say and do.

Last Anonymous cannot even fathom that IndyTexans might actually be a group who is neither right wing or liberal, but a group that is intelligently trying to slow down the hate debate and divisiveness so we all can benefit from healthy and sensible growth.

The word "growth" is now a contentious word because it has become the rallying cry for the elected dictator plutocrats who have no competition once they get in power - due to their rigged two-party duo-cracy that shuns all independents and the middle class.

Reasonable and planned growth - especially when it comes to our water and our public health standards - is good. Mindless growth is potentially dangerous to the American family. All we have to do is look at the current US unemployment and underemployment rate (15-20%), the huge backlog of foreclosures, the Great Recession caused by an unpunished criminal Wall Street, and the recent corporate diasters and deaths caused by BP and Massey Energy.

These are all the result of mindless growth and its resulting greed. Again, reasonable and planned growth - is good. Mindless growth is not.

If the naysayers can't get beyond their own ideological egos to see the difference, our country will continue to flounder and lose what is left of our middle class.

We are all on the same side when it comes to touching the American Dream. It is just a matter of having an open meeting of the best minds from all sides.

IndyTexans are correct about asking for a moratorium, especially now.
