CNN Poll: Obama's health care speech is a winner with the viewing public

See the whole story here.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Two out of three Americans who watched President Obama's health care reform speech Wednesday night favor his health care plans, a 14-point gain among speech-watchers, according to a CNN/Opinion Research Corp. national poll.

Fifty-six percent of people questioned say they had a very positive reaction to President Obama's speech.

Sixty-seven percent of people questioned in the survey said they support the health care reform proposals Obama outlined in his address to a joint session of Congress. Twenty-nine percent opposed the proposals. Those figures are almost identical to a poll conducted immediately after Bill Clinton's health care speech before Congress in September 1993.

Jobs should be the #1 priority in this nation, not health care.

No one should take the results seriously. This poll was skewed to the left, as most polls from CNN have been. It was not a fair and balanced sampling with only 427 adult Americans that were interviewed (screened) before and after the speech. In their own document they said, “18% of the respondents who participated in tonight's survey identified themselves as Republicans, 45% identified themselves as Democrats, and 37% identified themselves as Independents”.

This is just one more example of the desperation of the Democrats that are beginning to see that their hero just can’t close the deal on Healthcare. In his speech, he made several statements that are untrue, the illegal alien statement, which he was called out on. Also the false claim that he can save billions of dollars from Medicare and Medicaid to pay for his program. If that were true, why not do it first and then let’s talk about the rest of his program. Of course he won’t because he can’t and neither can anybody else in Washington. Saying that his program will cost “only” $900 billion is also a lie.

Hi Don. Well I guess if you'd been at the speech you also would have shouted out "That's a lie". Way to go, Mr. Don, bringing the same kind of inner rage Rep. Wilson has into the Wimberley valley.

Don, you are very likely to need serious healthcare yourself, possibly in the near future. People like yourself with so much inner rage often end up with high blood pressure, heart disease, a heart attack, strokes, ulcers and a myriad of other health problems.

When you get sick, who is going to pay for your your health care, whether public or private? Why, you, me, him, her and everyone.

Next time you feel the urge to go to a town hall meeting and vent, here's an idea. Stride into your walk-in closet, close the door, and scream as loud and as long as you can.

It will be better for your health and cheaper for all of us in the long run.

Don, you ole fossil head, there you go again. The small part of your brain that you still have left for reasoning just can't seem to expand past Republican and Rush Limbaugh talking points. No help there.

Thanks, Don. Well put and dead on.

I am always amused at the rather immature responses on these Blogs that come from the ones that have nothing to say for their side, just slam and slime the messenger. If you have no defense, and you don’t, then why get personal? You harm your own cause since anyone that is undecided will assume (know) that your side has no substance. I don’t get talking points from anyone, I think for myself, a rare M. O. these days.

Obama’s speech was in his usual windshield wiper, teleprompter, style with very good reading. Whoever writes his speeches does a good job getting out their talking points and Obama just supplies the drama. It is too bad he can’t talk extemporaneously without the “uh…uh…duh…uh” and saying, “let me be clear about this” and repeating the word “crisis”. Substance would help ease the pain of watching his never-ending Orwellian presentations. He, like “Big Brother” in “Nineteen Eighty-Four” has to be on the tube every day to beat the drum.

The speech provided nothing new and I got the feeling that he knows his program is finished. The Bill is morphing into something that pleases neither side. He is very intelligent, surely he know that. The weak mention of “Tort Reform” as a possible study, was a non-starter; the democrats get the most of their campaign donations from the trial lawyers. His outlandish claims about the financing of the program go against all rationale. The numbers simply do not add up and anyone in a High school accounting class would see it.

What a false statement about not covering illegal aliens, what will we do just let them die in the streets? His statement may be technically true, but in reality is a more evolutionary lie. I support Wilson for his yelling out, and condemn his apology as well the RINOs that told him to. Most likely, the democrats will try to push the Amnesty Bill through Congress again. If they aren’t illegal, they are covered, see how that works. His reference to the “Raddatz story” was a not so veiled attempt to continue the demonization of the insurance companies. Get rid of the insurance companies and all you would have is Government Healthcare, that’s what this is all about, make no mistake about it! I better sign off, I feel my pressure rising.

Oh, by the way I’m feeling fine … thanks for asking and the advice.

Politifact.com 2009 Pulitzer Prize winning fact check site. I would suggest Don and others go to that site and check the facts before spreading more b.s.

Ever notice that the Left starts the insults and mudslinging instead of engaging in honest and open debate? Do you notice that they will not refute what appears to be facts? That the poll in question was skewed appears to not be questioned, but rather than choose to debate the honesty of the poll, the Left instead chooses to impugn the character of those who would dare challenge their opinion and worldview.

Americans should be telling Obama, "You can keep the change!"

Little has changed for the better since Obama became our president.

Wall Street continues to make profits off people's tragedy.

Fewer jobs, more on unemployment benefits, many lost in the numbers game as they no longer can be eligible for benefits, increased poverty and loss of homes, too many problems.

Wall Street is buying bonds to make money off people's poor health. As long as that is happening, why would private industry want to make health care more affordable for the masses?

As has been stated on various blogs by commentators who think, job creation is the most urgent issue facing Obama and Americans; however, this urgent issus has been swept aside.

Obama is a huge disappointment. He is continuing the failed Bush administration's political, economic and social policies.

We all remain in deep "muck" created by our leadership.

Congress remains the "do little or do nothing" legislative body. Why should its members give a hoot about the majority of Americans when each has several homes, cars and savings intact? [rhetorical question]

Our lives are going to get more stressed and our misguided policies and actions will continue to deepen the divide between the "haves and have-nots".

It is going to get pretty crazy soon.

Yeah, Don, you will be "dead on" - DOA - if you leave your health care up to the insurance companies. Good luck with that. Why is it the right wingers think the health insurance companies are their friends? Don't you know that our federal and state governments are run by the corporations and our local governments are run by real estate and other special interests? If you don't, such foolishness is a clear sign of the need for mental health benefits. And of course government shouldn't run health care. But to defend these pathological lying, sociopathically greedy insurance companies - who already control the life or death of you and your family in their legal/accounting offices - is sheer folly. Come on, Americans. We are falling right into the hands of the corporatacracy that wants us to fight among ourselves so we can't get anything done politically to take back control of our lives. And for all you wingnuts who want to hate Obama, show some intelligence and hate him for bailing out the Wall Street banking crooks and his war escalation (oh, yes, I forgot, you like war). Get real. The health insurance companies are NOT your friends.

"Obama's health care speech is a winner with the viewing public"???

This is sheer spin.

Did CNN poll the increasing homeless population? Or those who are losing their homes to foreclosure? Or those who are buying weapons and hording ammunitions, awaiting the chaos to come?

The middle class is almost extinct. Soon there will be only the extremes --- the almighty wealthy and the majority pulverized with poverty.

Obama is full of buffalo chips!

Most Americans are struggling to stay alive.

Realist: I do agree with you on most of your points but offer this correction; the bank bailouts started one year ago this month under the Bush Administration. As far as escalating the war I am curious please enlighten me.

In response to comment #12: Check your numbers. Even your beloved Fox News claims "tens of thousands". WSJ agrees and the Washington Fire Department estimates 75k. Please spend a moment to research the facts before you post.

Obama is too busy trying to be a TV and Hollywood star.

He escalated a war against Afghanistan that will not be won. It is like Iraq and Vietnam. You can't win this type of war no matter how many billions we spend.

We need to stop spending billions overseas and instead focus on the urgent issues here at home. Use some of those billions domestically.

The number 1 issue is unemployment. U.S. citizens need jobs. The best way to do so is to provide incentives for businesses to rehire former employees and hire new ones. Another way to develop jobs is for the government to create federal jobs to rebuild our crumbling infrastructures.

We need to pay off some of our debt to other nations while repurchasing markets, bonds and structures/components we have sold to other nations.

We have created a mess during the past several decades and it will take decades to rebuild our nation.

I agree whole-heartedly with the first comment on this blog. That "Jobs should be the #1 priority in this nation, not health care."

I also agree that revamping and extending Medicare, a known health care system, should be a priority. No need to develop and implement a whole new system.

What does it take to create intelligent resolutions. Congress is in the habit of doing little or nothing to resolve urgent issues. We need to get rid of the deadwood and vote-in new blood.

And how about modifying our immigration laws and enforcing them? Having 20 million illegals in our nation is not helpful to anyone. This is NOT a racial issue, it is a legal issue.

We also need to initiate term limits in national, state and local government. We need new people every 2 terms!

We have let this nation go for too long. We need to cut expenditures, pay off our debt, create jobs, deal rational with the illegal immigrant issue, provide term limits for elected officials and prohibit huge special interest campaign contributions and gifts.

If we do these things we may be able to progress more quickly in a positive direction.

Jeez, so much commentary and finger pointing on Obama. How quickly some of you forget. Obama has been in office barely 6 months! I will be forever grateful if it takes Obama the rest of his first term to get us all out of the Holy Hell created by President Strategery and his Anti-Christ VP "heh heh" Cheney in their eight year nightmare regime. I'll gladly support Obama for a second term after he accomplishes the near impossible. You go Big O! I've got you back. The others can besmirch you and wish you failure all they want. Not me. I will elevate my thoughts to wish you success and success for our dear old country.

If you think government healthcare is the answer, you haven’t tried it. I have, in the Air Force and now on Medicare. The health care in the Military was barley adequate, enough to keep you alive. It was free, and worth every penny. Medicare is getting worse by the day. It is not free, my wife and I pay a shade over $400 per month along with co-pays and have had 3 doctors drop us in the last year because they decided the reimbursement from Medicare was not enough. Doctors are bailing out of Medicare in droves. There is a lot of rationing of drug coverage and they will stick you with excessive co-pays. I have to laugh when I hear someone suggest that Medicare be extended to everyone. Be careful what you ask for.

BTW "you go big O" Isn’t it amazing how much damage “O” has done in "barely 6 months"?

Confused but not stupid said...

I still say Medicare extended to all citizens is a good solution.

I am a disabled veteran and I am ecstatic to use Medicare over my free VA coverage. There is no comparison except that I have to pay for the Medicare.

As was stated previously, Medicare is in need of some revamping and modifications. No, it isn't perfect. But it is adquate and is working.

If Medicare was extended to all Americans, doctors couldn't leave this system in droves because it pays 30% of what doctors want to be paid. They would have no choice but to grin and bear it --- like most Americans with private health care do now.

BTW, private health care doesn't pay for everything either. There are copays and other out-of-pocket expenses. There also are limits to care and prescription medication, a.k.a., "donut holes".

There are no copays with Medicare. I pay $120 per month for Medicare. It is a great system for what I pay.

Tell me again why private health care is so much better than Medicare? I fail to see it.

Obama still has a "do-nothing" Congress dug into its generations of habit.

Seldom does anything move quickly in this Congress.

Grab and hang-on to your knees everyone, it's going to be a rough ride for a long time.
