Florida primary pits Tea Party vs. Cocktail Party

“The Romney campaign has been the cucumber sandwiches on silver trays campaign,” said GOP strategist Alex Castellanos. “Newt is running a torches and pitchforks campaign. Who do you think Republicans would want to storm the castle with? When you’re storming the castle you don’t care if your leader has slept around, is on his 50th wife – you just want somebody who says, ‘Let’s go kill them!’”

Here's an excellent piece of reporting on the big divide between Romney and Gingrich supporters. Did someone mention class warfare?
["The cars in the parking lot both at Romney’s gathering and the Columbia hotel where many of his out-of-state supporters stayed were dotted with late-model Lexuses and Mercedes."]

TAMPA, Fla., Jan. 26, 2012 — As the Republican race moves to a state defined by the extremes in recession-era America — where the underwater and unemployed live just a few miles from the 1 percent — a sharp class divide is emerging between the two top contenders.

Mitt Romney’s crowds look like something out of the president’s suite at a University of Florida football game — prosperous, trim, Tattersall-clad, and supportive but not rowdy.

Newt Gingrich supporters, with their spray-painted signs, American flag tees, flip-flops and fanny packs, more closely resemble a group that would fit in nicely playing a few bucks at the dog track.

. . .

The sense of anger is palpable among Gingrich’s middle-class supporters. They’re often fearful about their own financial situation and think Washington doesn’t need to be changed — it needs to be blown up.

Newt represents us true conservatives who want to go back to a rich white man running our Christian nation.

Romney is more like a Muslim in Christian clothing.

Free markets run by the Aryan race. That's want we want, and Gingrich can lead the way.

Vote for Newt. Pitch a ball to Mitt.

Hey, I go to the dog track when I'm in Florida. And I'm a Democrat.

How dare this writer compare me to a Tea Party Gingrich supporter.

Romney pays a 15% tax on income he generates from previous investments.

His capital gain produced annual income is taxed at 15% - like long-term capital gains for all of us - whether we are in the 99% or the 1% class.

However, for us peons, we all pay quarterly dividends and monthly interest income at ordinary income tax rates (25% or higher for a single person with taxable income over roughly 38K or 25% or higher for married filing jointly couple with taxable income over $70K.

If Romney were smart, and in fact gets most or all of his annual distributed income from profits generated by long-term capital gains, he would simply show right wing and independent voters that most and/or all of his annual income is from long-term capital gains taxed profits.

Since he hasn't done that, which is a simple explanation understandable to most Americans, either Romney and his handlers are stupid, or he is hiding something.

Either way, by letting this elitist 1% problem fester, he is fast losing credibility as a potential President that can effectively represent all Americans.

Clearly he believes the right wing penny-loafer w/ tassle cocktail set will get him the Republican nomination.

No doubt the Democratic Party corporatists like Obama and his Super-Pacs just love the GOP race as Gingrich et al gives them the talking points they can use to win in November.

Vote for Rocky Anderson from the new Justice Party.

Is anyone following this legal case on candidacy in Georgia? I watched the news and did not see anything on this (not surprised, just wondering...)

Hey Rocky...

Romney's income isn't just interest from his own investments. He was only paying 15% on the money received as a management fee from profits generated for others on their money.

"Because the 20% profits share typically is the bulk of the manager's compensation and because this compensation can reach, in the case of the most successful funds, enormous figures, concern has been raised, both in the U.S. Congress and in the media, that managers are taking advantage of tax loopholes to receive what is effectively a salary without paying the ordinary 35% marginal income tax rates that an average person would have to pay on such income."

See, e.g. Carried Interest"

Can only hope "true conservative" has posted a parody. If not, the post is the best advert for NOT voting for Newtie imaginable.

Republicans have a tough family values decision to make in the Republican presidential primary.

They could vote for a Mormon who comes from a family history of polygamy. Or, they could vote for a man who has created a life of near polygamy, by twice having an affair while being married.

Or, they could vote for another man who has been with one woman all his life - but the wife lived on a commune in her younger days which advocated free love.

On the other hand, with the Republicans being good Christians, they are willing to forgive and forget if the cheating man tells the flock that he is either "saved" or was only cheating because he was being patriotic to the country.

Or, they could simply vote for an intelligent incumbent President who has done nothing different economically than the Mormon and the wife cheater would do.

Socially, the incumbent respects woman and individual personal choice and freedom much more than the Mormon and the cheater, and he has not cheated on his wife.

Gee, I wonder who I will vote for.

Speaking as a moderate Republican, the head of the national Republican Party yesterday compared Obama to the captain of the Italian cruise ship who caused many people to lose their lives.

That just goes to show how sleazy hypocritical the leadership of the Republican Party have become.

Compare this recent comment to the fact that Bush/Cheney killed hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians with their bogus invasion and occupation of Iraq, and this latest RNC hate comment shows how despicable they are.

If they keep this up I will vote for Obama, just because he at least is not a mean-spirited jerk like his opposition has become just because they are getting desparate.

Typical simplistic Politico fluff, casting about for mental crutches and memes with which to condition the voters, to distract them from their shrinking dollars and Battlefield Amurika for awhile.

Always good for a laugh. Romney booster Paul Phillips on Willard and Newton: "They were the only two intellectual, credible people in the race." Have to love those intellectual moon colonists and credible flip-floppers!

The GOP strategist is a little closer to the mark on Newt: "Let's go kill them!"

Meanwhile, He Who Must Not Be Named is still in the race, as is, for a little while longer, Mr. Frothy Mix.

If you haven't slogged through the 4 pages of the Politico story, let me save you the trouble. It's not about Tea Party vs. cocktail party or any other cutesy conceit.

It's about which wing of the War Party will win. Follow the dollar$$$:
1. Obam/ney, tool of Goldman Sachs
2. Gin-grinch, tool of Sheldon Adelson and AIPAC
3. You-Know-Who, whose average donation is about $60 and draws more support from active military than the rest of the tools put together.
