Chicken on a June bug! Big, powerful fast food business versus the t-shirt dude

Note: We're on summer break of sorts, so use this space to report on, comment on, or start a discussion on any other hot topic in Hays County or the Universe that grabs you. Have fun. Be nice. Try to be as factual as you can. And remember to eat more watermelon.

Note note (from the youtube video): T-shirt artist Bo Muller-Moore defies Chick-fil-a, a multi-billion dollar fast food chain, when they lay claim to his 'Eat More Kale' t-shirt design and website. This is a trailer for the documentary in the making. Learn more at www.ADefiantDude.com.

Boston Mayor to Chick-fil-A: Stuff it

Boston Herald | Full Story | By Greg Turner (Fri July 20, 2012) – Mayor Thomas M. Menino is vowing to block Chick-fil-A from bringing its Southern-fried fast-food empire to Boston — possibly to a popular tourist spot just steps from the Freedom Trail — after the family-owned firm’s president suggested gay marriage is “inviting God’s judgment on our nation.”

“Chick-fil-A doesn’t belong in Boston. You can’t have a business in the city of Boston that discriminates against a population. We’re an open city, we’re a city that’s at the forefront of inclusion,” Menino told the Herald yesterday.

“That’s the Freedom Trail. That’s where it all started right here. And we’re not going to have a company, Chick-fil-A or whatever the hell the name is, on our Freedom Trail.”

Chick-fil-A did not respond to multiple requests for comment. But the company released a statement yesterday saying it has a history of applying “biblically-based principles” to managing its business, such as closing on Sundays, and it insisted it does not discriminate.

Early voting in Texas' primary runoff elections begins Monday July 23 and runs through Friday July 27. Election day is Tuesday July 31. Click on the links for the ballot listings and early voting locations in Hays County for the Democratic primary runoff election and the Republican primary runoff election.

Note: This comes via an old and recycled email chain letter (from 2009) that has been making the rounds lately. Its message is simple and makes more sense than all the claptrap emanating from Washington. If you're voting in the upcoming primary elections, or even if you are not planning on voting, you might want to contact your favorite congressperson or candidate and ask if they would support at least the spirit of the purported "Congressional Reform Act of 2012 (USNews 3-13-12)." The email that ties Buffet to the letter and the Act was actually a hoax (urbanlegends Oct 2011), but it nevertheless offers a pretty effective 'quick kill' alternative to the status quo.

Blowin' in the wind: Why the Act will never pass – The Congressional Reform Act isn't a real piece of legislation. Even if it were, what are the chances members of Congress would vote to eliminate perks and jeopardize their own job security?

Email: Warren Buffett (left in photo), in a recent interview with CNBC, offers one of the best quotes about the debt ceiling:

"I could end the deficit in 5 minutes," he told CNBC. "You just pass a law that says that anytime there is a deficit of more than 3% of GDP, all sitting members of Congress are ineligible for re-election."

Congressional Reform Act of 2012

1. No Tenure / No Pension.
A Congressman/woman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they're out of office.

2. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security.
All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people. It may not be used for any other purpose.

3. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.

4. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.

5. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people.

6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.

7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen/women are void effective 12/1/12. The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen/women.

Congress made all these contracts for themselves. Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then go home and back to work.

THIS IS HOW YOU FIX CONGRESS!

I think it is good to know what kinds of bigots run certain businesses. This way you can choose to buy your products and contribute to the wealth of people who will not use your money to further causes that hurt you or your loved ones.

To this end: On August 3rd, at 8 pm EST, there will be a National Same-Sex Kissing event at Chick-Fil-A restaurants across America.

Just stroll up to your nearest Chick-fil- and give your honey a big kiss. That should make for a good day's worth of photos!

While I support a person's right to hold any belief they so desire, it is also my right not to give that person my money to spread their hateful worldview.

why bother said...

So, not only does Chic-filet have bad chicken sandwiches, but they think they own the right to tell some dude he cannot talk about "kale"?

I hear that the owner of the bad chicken sandwich store also hates gay people.

Bad food AND bad politics.

Regarding the front page story in the Wimberley View. The Mr Frankmann mentioned is one of the biggest deed restriction violaters in the WPOA. The WPOA has filed several lawsuits against him and he stll refuses to clean up the trash in his yard. Where does he get off accusing the Lanes of deed restriction violations. He needs to clean up his mess before he accuses someone. Oh by the way he is one of the property owners who wrote the "amended"deed restrictions. Soooo! I guess he thinks they do not apply to him.

Anonymous said...

To the WPOA Anon who is trashing Mr. Frankmann, aren't you being a bit snarky after being exposed at not doing you job and shoving the distasteful job off on the City of Wimberley?

I can tell you that the Mayor, P&Z Committee and the Council are not happy with the WPOA especially considering the reason you did not go after the Lanes last year and you do know what I mean.

The WPOA's Deed Restriction Enforcement is and always has been based on Punishment and Reward. Any way, the Lanes were shut down never to return Soooo! that's a good thing.

The WPOA? Ha ha ha. The WPOA corporation is universally despised by virtually everyone. About the only people that "like" the WPOA are board members and the paid staff.

The homeowners can't stand the WPOA - that's why owners of hundreds of lots have worked to amend deed restrictions to get out of the WPOA.

Anonymous said...

To the WPOA bashing anonymous at least the WPOA has meetings where the members can speak about what is going on and maybe effect a change. If they don't like the board they can elect a new one. The property owners have a say in what goes on in the subdivision. That is more than you can say about WSCA. When was the last time they had a members meeting? They are required to have one once a year. I have not received notice of one that I can ever recall. The WPOA may not be the best but at least I have a say in how it is run. If you don't like the WPOA or if you do like it then attend the meetings and let your voice be heard. If you just sit by then you may get something you don't want.

The WPOA Board and its rude Staff have alienated themselves to Hays County, The County Judge and all Commissioners, Aqua-Texas, CAS, The Cities of Woodcreek and Wimberley, along with about 90% of the residents in Woodcreek North and Eagle Rock. The WPOA s losing its sections one by one to the WSCA by legal balloting of the property owners with almost nobody voting to stay with the WPOA. Their days are numbered!

Anonymous said...

Why do you not post my response to the attacks on the WPOA? I am posting anonymous because I do not want any more threats against me. these people who are posting have made it clear that they hate the WPOA and will do and say anything to destroy it. That includes lying if it furthers their cause. If you are a true journalist you will post my response. I am trying to give you the other side of the story.

Anonymous said...

You are nuts! The majority of woodcreek property owners do not want to be associated with WSP. We would have no representation with them. They do not have any property owner meetings. If we go with them we would have no representation. WSCA forget it! It is taxation without representation.

WPOA Watchdog said...

uh I have a question according to the Wimberley View article that came out today the wpoa does not own the roads. If that is true then how were they able to deed 30 roads over to the county in 2010? If you do not own something then you can not give it away. The wpoa, wsp and hays county all accepted these roads but now they say that the wopa does not own any of the roads. Does that mean that the county took over 30 roads illegally? I think so!

Ask anyone that attended the WPOA Member's Meeting last Saturday July 21 at the Wimberley Community Center about how well it was received. The Board led by its ill equipped president looked and acted like a bunch of fools and ran out before the meeting was over. The members were in virtual revolution over the Quitclaim fiasco and their proposed new office they can't afford and will probably have to dun the members to finish. They are on the run!

Anonymous said...

There is a big difference between "owning" the roads and the responsibility for maintaining the roads. The WPOA has never owned the roads but has accepted the Responsibility to maintain them, thereby setting a precedent. The County neither owns nor maintains the roads but can accept the dedication of them to Maintain under their own terms. They have to be up to County Standards and specifications first. The WPOA tried to pull a sneaky transfer but it didn't work. Now the whole world knows how sleazy they are. They are not very smart!

Thank You

I don't know who is the real WPOA Watchdog but I found the WSP Watchdog much better and far more interesting. According to that blog a Mr Richard Sullivan is the author of the WPOA Watchdog. Very interesting!

Actually the board president tries to run the member meetings in addition to the board meetings. You are in serious denial if you think you are going to 'effect a change' with that board. That board has one objective: saving the WPOA in order to preserve the board members' position of power and immunity as compared to all the other residents of the subdivision.

If they don't like the board they can elect a new one.

Ho ho ha ha. For decades the WPOA board didn't allow those it did not like to vote. You are blind if you think you have a chance of changing anything in a regime where the board decides who runs for office and who can vote. Your president was caught off guard when the legislature mandated that HOA boards can no longer do this. So the WPOA board tried to set up other impediments to ensure the outcome of "their" elections - like unlawfully attempting to place conditions on residents running for office and rigging the election by controlling who received ballots. You aren't going to change anything in that regime - you just have to eliminate it.

The property owners have a say in what goes on in the subdivision.

Well some property owners do - they are called "board members". The rest of the property owners have no say. See above.

That is more than you can say about WSCA. When was the last time they had a members meeting? They are required to have one once a year. I have not received notice of one that I can ever recall.

It's actually about the same. The board members determine everything. However, homeowners in the WSCA have not experienced the irrational, overbearing, litigation-happy behavior exhibited by the WPOA.

The WPOA may not be the best but at least I have a say in how it is run.
Only if you are either a board member or the non-owner administrative assistant.

If you don't like the WPOA or if you do like it then attend the meetings and let your voice be heard. If you just sit by then you may get something you don't want.

See above. In an environment of rigged elections conducted by the WPOA board - you can expect the same bad behavior you've had for 30 years.

To avoid this situation moving forward, homeowners have voted in droves to amend restrictive covenants to remove their property from the purview of the WPOA and its board. The WPOA has only continued to get worse and I suspect that the WPOA will continue to drive entire sections of homeowners away.

What is the purpose of the WPOA existing other than to satiate a few grouches' desires to control all their neighbors? The WPOA does not take care of the roads or anything else. The WPOA corp pays for insurance for its board members, salaries for administrative support, and attorney fees for the lawsuits the board members provoke against property owners - none of these expenses would exist but for the existence of the WPOA. The WPOA does not offer anything of value to the non-board member residents. Time for the WPOA corp to go out of business. All the property owners would be better off without it and it really has not served any legitimate purpose for decades.

I understand that you hate the WPOA and that is your decision. However you do not need to be so hateful, nasty and mean to get your point across.
I am asking everyone who posts on this blog to be polite and respectful of others feelings.
It is unfortunate that there are some people in this beautiful area that have such dark souls. They feel that in order to build themselves up they must tear someone else down.
We can disagree with each other without being so negative and hurtful.
Please try to be nice.

There does seem to be more than a couple of mean spirited folks posting here under the cloak of anonymity. Posts bashing someone or something anonymously have no credibility, are mostly bigoted and likely have more misinformation than information. But, it is a useful tactic for the weak.

Given the tone and tenor of several of the anonymous postings
regarding the WPOA, one must give credit to Richard Sullivan for the majority of those ugly comments. He must not have much going on these days so must bring his horrid unfounded words here. Go back to the blog you're so proud of; keep the
miserable bashing of everything you despise confined to that.

@ Anonymous July 30, 2012 5:21 PM,

There is nothing "hateful, nasty, or mean" about the points made - they are simply truthful. You have a problem with the truth other than wanting to avoid it?

Not Richard Sullivan said...

Here's the"constructive" comment regarding the WPOA: eliminate it.

The WPOA corp offers nothing of value - and is in fact an obnoxious liability for the vast majority of homeowners. That's why property owners are electing in droves to exit the WPOA.

WPOA board members, on the other hand, are desperate to maintain a position of control over everyone else's property AND to keep taking money from these former members under threat of foreclosure.

The WPOA board is so desperate - they'll spend every last dime of homeowner assessments to try to hang onto "turf" and prevent homeowners from leaving the WPOA corp. Case in point: the current lawsuit the WPOA filed to prevent property owners from remaining free of the taint of the WPOA corp.

The WPOA board refuses to accept the reality that lots of property owners want NOTHING to do with the WPOA. Section after section of property owners got rid of their WPOA corp. membership. More sections will be doing the same.

The ones talking the trash about the WPOA are obviously the ones with the BIG MOUTHS at the meetings that wont be quiet so the people that want to talk can talk. There is obviously a group that are in the poclet of WSP and spend all the time they can making trouble either directly or indirectly for the WPOA. Winton Porterfield has been trying to dismantle the WPOA for years. He has even had previous Presidents and other directors in his pocket. In the recent years it has been Mrs Howard and Mrs Redus.

And WPOA charges over $400.00 if you sell your house - which you only find out from the title company.

ATI and WPOA - a very expensive duo for homeowners.

The Anonymous who blogged August 2, 2012 4:32 PM is none other than the WPOA's infamous Office Manager and recent Blog Owner, Janelle Delaney who is in fear of losing her $50,000+ per year job when the WPOA finally goes under. She will then be lucky to get a job at the Burger Barn for tips.

Now she has stooped to Liable against the two fine ladies that have served as Presidents of the Board. Those two Presidents are aware of the evil that she has perpetrated on the Property owners just to serve her self interests. She has threatened those past presidents on her vicious lying Blog, "WSP Watchdog".

It seems that Ms. Delaney's believes that everyone that is aware of her misconduct is "In the pocket" of someone she hates.

Last poster needs to check facts regarding house sales and WPOA fees; recently sold my house. $400 by WPOA: not even so much!

Neighbors within WPOA need to question the ethics of Board members of the past who have "sold out" to Wimberley Springs for personal gains. Some have been found out, much to their chagrin, and have been forced off the Board as well as having to "pay the piper"!! Some remain as your neighbors. Shame on them!!

Rumor has it that Pat Sullivan, (wife of ???)as a former member of the DAR, has set herself up as a doyenne of flag-display etiquette. In that self-elevated capacity, she has reprimanded the WPOA on how it displays the flags at entrances and office. What???

Anonymous said...

Ms Delaney is not the author of the WPOA Watchdog. Mr Richard Sullivan was overheard at the last WPOA meeting proudly stating that the Watchdog is his blog and asking everyone to read it.

Anonymous said...

Who ever it is attacking Janelle for calling out previous members of the board as well as runnig a new blog the WSP Watchdog are WAY off track. Not even the right gender much less near the sense of humor. BAHAHAHAHA good luck with it but I aint her :P.

Also Mr Sullivan should you get called out as being on the board and in WSP pockets as well. Hopefully after reading the post on WSP Watchdog Miss Pat has realized that she has no reason to be a flag Nazi anymore as well.

I have searched the DAR records and have been unable to find where a Patricia Sullivan has ever been a member of the DAR. Perhaps Ms Sullivan could enlighten us as to where she was a member? I noticed that she did not mention the flags at the last "member's" meeting. Has she given up her post as keeper of the collective flag conscience?

To the alcoholic insomniac who commented on August 18, 2012 12:39 AM about Patricia Sullivan not being a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, DAR. Did it ever occur to you that Patricia's name wasn't Sullivan when she was accepted into that great Organization. I'd ask you to apologize but that would require some class which I expect you are unlikely to have.

Anonymous said...

Sir I did not intend to insult Ms Sullivan. It was my understanding that once you are a member of the DAR you are always a member, at least that is what I was always told. Ms Sullivan did not tell us that she was listed under a different name. just because I posted late at night does not mean that I am a alcoholic insomniac. Did it ever occur to you that I may be a person who works the night shift?
To Ms Sullivan if I have insulted you I apologize however to the poster I do not recognize your authority to demand an apology in Ms Sullivan's name. Therefore I do not apologize to you sir.

the people in Section 19 in woodcreek north did not choose to join Wsp they had not choice as WSP had more votes than the rest of us, so youcan say that we were taken over by the evil EMPIRE, Also in one of the postings Mr Sullivan Called the WPOA association a corporation well it is not, it is a board of good people that are volunteers and do a great job the only person that is paid is janneland I would not want her job forall the money in China. Maybe Mr Sullivan should take it over and just see what really goed on in that office. As far as WSP we have not have a home owners meeting in the last year since we were taken over... I would like to know where our money is going ?????/

Anonymous said...

Me too! At lease under WPOA we had a voice and 8 pages of deed restrictions not 140 pages of legal ramblings. Mr. Porterfield when are we going to have a WSCA meeting? According to the law we were supposed to have one at least once a year. You seem to be more insterested in spending our money suing people for no reason than fixing our roads and telling us how you are spending our money.

Hey anonymous I agree with you.
At least when SECTION 19 in the wpoa they had representation.
The wpoa president and board fought for the property owners in the face of really bad comments by a blog owner who hates the wpoa.
Wsp does not care about SECTION 19. Wsp has never had the meeting with SECTION 19 property owners that was promised.
